Paint the Bus!!

Phase one has been completed and the bus in now in operation. Phase two is painting the vehicle. The cost of this phase is $2600.00. A $100 donation will purchase a window. For this amount enough paint can be purchased and applied to paint the area equivalent to size of the window up to the center of the bus. Here is how you can become part of this ministry--

Member/attender of Bedford Church of the Nazarene? Simply write a check to church, place in a giving envelope, mark the envelope "WE CARE" and place in the offering plate the next time you visit.

Buses International--Project #80

Buses International is a non-profit, non-denominational and interdependent ministry organization committed to seeing the Gospel of Jesus Christ spread to every nation of the world.

Buses International's Mobile Clinic and Ministry Vehicle Division converts retired buses into mobile medical clinics, dental clinics, eye clinics, emergency-response vehicles, shower buses, mobile classrooms, food distribution units and street ministry vehicles. Our Founder, Rev. Dr. Norman R. Beetler, has always referred to the Mobile Clinic Division as "the main thing" and has encouraged everyone involved with BUSES International to "keep the main thing, the main thing". Building mobile ministry vehicles is at the heart of the original vision God gave Norm back in 1988 and remains at the heart of what we do today.

We Care Connection and Buses International have partnered together to renovate an old schoolbus donated to We Care Connection in 2008.

Each ministry unit is designed and built at an approximate cost of $15,000.00 to $75,000.00 (or more). Since each bus is unique and designed for a specific purpose, costs vary from bus to bus. Once completed, the units are donated to established ministries, missionaries or other outreach organizations in various countries to assist them in meeting the needs of the poor and sharing the love of Jesus Christ in the area. They, in turn, assume the responsibility of operating and maintaining the unit.

By the end of March, Buses International will have completed phase #1 of a Food Service / Street Ministry Bus. This bus will be used by We Care Connection in Cleveland, OH, to feed and minister to the homeless. This project has been broken into five phases. Each phase will be completed as the funds become available.

Starting in April, the bus will be placed into service. Each new phase will add another dimension and ministry capability to the bus.

Someone Falls Down on the Sidewalk: What would you do?

If you saw someone collapse in front of you on your way to work, would you come to his or her aid or just walk on by? It seems a simple question, and we would all like to think that we would do the right thing, but sometimes there is evidence to the contrary as demonstrated by this ABC News Commentary suggests:

Did you know?

* Based on a “point in time” count of homeless persons in the Greater Cleveland area in January, 2005, 2198 homeless persons were identified. Of those, 1208 were in emergency shelters, 738 were in transitional housing, and 252 were unsheltered and living on the street.

* NEOCH – (Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless) believes that there are another 2000 people “uncounted” on the streets in abandoned buildings and in remote locations outside of the downtown area every night.

* 18-35 year old men, 16-30 year old women, and single parents with children now represent the bulk of the homeless population. Most are not transients, but minorities and local people who have been homeless for one year or less. Among the homeless, we find people who are dependent on a variety of drugs, emotionally dysfunctional, mentally ill, and medically at-risk, especially for HIV/AIDS. A high percentage of them have been sexually and physically abused.

* Homeless persons are at graet risk of hypothermia, poor nutrition, chronic health problems, physical attack and even death.

The Birth of the Ministry

WCC (We Care Connection) was born out of one family’s desire to teach their children about people who are less fortunate than they. They shared with the Bethel Church of the Nazarene’s church board how instead of partaking in the annual Thanksgiving church dinner they would be going to the streets to delivery lunches to the homeless. The board “jumped on board” and in November 2005 thirteen adults and children went to the homeless with blankets, scarves, gloves, and lunches.

On the third trip out, one lady kept asking one of the teen, “Why? But why?” The teenager answered, “Because we care.”

“Go therefore into the main streets, and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet” Matthew 22:9 NRSV

Christ commands us to share the Good News of salvation with all who will listen. In Matthew 22, Jesus tells a parable referred to as “The Parable of the Wedding Feast.” In it, Jesus describes a king who sends out his servants to invite guests to the feast of the wedding of his son. He does this three times, and each time, those invited refuse to come. So the king then tells his servants to go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone they can find. The servants do so, and the wedding hall is filled with guests. The wedding feast represents the union of Christ and His Bride, the Church, in Heaven. The reference to the street corners in the parables is exactly as described: the Lord invites everyone to attend His feast – those on ordinary street corners, down rat infested allies, or under dark bridges.
